Tsushimamire, recently celebrated their 26th anniversary with an intimate performance at Shimokitazawa Shelter in Tokyo.

On Tuesday, July 1, Japanese art punk trio Tsushimamire celebrated their 26th anniversary with an intimate performance at Shimokitazawa Shelter in Tokyo. Known for their eclectic blend of punk, quirky art rock, and pop, Tsushimamire has built a devoted following across the world with a busy touring schedule, and this anniversary show was a treat for hometown fans and proof of their prowess as a live act.

In the years since they have built a devoted following thanks to their unique style that fuses raw punk energy with quirky, humour and surrealistic imagery. Their live shows are renowned for their vibrant, high energy shows, and the Shimokitazawa Shelter show was no exception.

Fans packed the venue, eager to celebrate over a quarter century of Tsushimamire’s music. The trio delivered a powerful set that spanned their extensive catalog, including fan favorites like Human Coating, Show You My Soy Sauce and noumiso shortcake (Brain Shortcake) which included lots of audience participation like Mari crowdsurfing and handing the mic off to audience members, plus deep cuts like their collaboration with the Powderpuff Girls, Hyper Sweet Power. The show also marked the the promotion of their current touring drummer Asami from a support musician to a full fledged member of the band, which was greeted by whoops of delight from their assembled fans.

As Tsushimamire embarks on the next chapter of their journey, their 26th anniversary performance at Shimokitazawa Shelter served as a reminder of what a great live band they are. For those in the audience, it was a night of nostalgia, excitement, and pure punk spirit from one of our favourite bands.

The band are due to commence their Ice Cream Punk world tour commencing in mid August in North America and continuing on to Europe in October. For Australian fans, plans are afoot to bring them down under in early 2026. This will be their first trip to Australia and will be well overdue after their 2020 tour was cancelled due to the pandemic. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated when the time comes.
